Some festivals set up in big cities with thousands of seats. Jazz sur un Plateau does the exact opposite: since 2007, this itinerant festival has been slipping music into the most unexpected corners of southern Ardèche — a black basalt chapel, a village square under the plane trees, a vineyard enclosure at dusk, a riverbank in the evening. In 2026 it’s the 20th edition, running 17 July to 2 August, with an anniversary programme that welcomes back Yuri Buenaventura and brings together jazz, soul, afrobeat, Latin jazz and world music for two weeks of concerts. And for Mas Saint Antoine guests: a free concert in Bourg-Saint-Andéol itself, on 30 July.
What is Jazz sur un Plateau?
Jazz sur un Plateau is run by the association of the same name (formerly ADCL), a team of nearly 40 volunteers based in Saint-Montan, southern Ardèche. From its first edition in 2007 in the single village of Larnas, the festival has gradually spread across the territory to reach nine partner communes: Larnas, Bidon, Saint-Montan, Saint-Martin-d’Ardèche, Saint-Just-d’Ardèche, Bourg-Saint-Andéol, Saint-Remèze, Viviers and Gras.
Its identity: an eclectic programme covering every corner of contemporary jazz — from swing tradition to Latin music, from pure blues to festive afrobeat — served in heritage venues chosen for their beauty and character. Paid concerts bring nationally and internationally recognised artists. Free concerts are the festival’s social signature: music for everyone, in the villages, on the squares, by the water.
