Cinéma sous les Étoiles 2026: 70+ outdoor screenings across Ardèche villages

There is a summer tradition in Ardèche that residents cherish and visitors discover with delight: Cinéma sous les Étoiles (Cinema under the Stars). Every summer, the association La Maison de l’Image in Aubenas loads up its mobile cinema truck and sets off to tour Ardèche villages — projecting films at nightfall in castle courtyards, village squares, municipal parks, panoramic terraces and mountain farmsteads. In 2026, that means more than 70 screenings across 50 communes in southern Ardèche. And two evenings take place in Bourg-Saint-Andéol itself, at Parc Pradelle — minutes from Mas Saint Antoine.

What is Cinéma sous les Étoiles?

Cinéma sous les Étoiles is a travelling open-air cinema festival, one of the flagship cultural missions of La Maison de l’Image in Aubenas. This association — Art et Essai certified and licensed by the CNC (French National Cinema Centre) — works year-round to make cinema accessible to Ardèche residents, including in the most rural areas far from permanent screens.

The idea is simple and beautiful: since not everyone can go to the cinema, the cinema comes to them. And in summer, in these villages that fill with holidaymakers and enjoy warm, star-filled nights, the experience takes on a magical quality.

As the La Maison de l’Image team puts it: The idea is to get together as a family or with friends at nightfall in the greatest cinema in the world. So bring a little cardigan and join us for the magic of cinema under the stars!

What makes these evenings unique

Cinéma sous les Étoiles is not just a film in a field. It’s a particular social and sensory experience:

  • Venues that only summer reveals: the courtyard of a floodlit medieval castle, a terrace above the Ardèche river, a village park under the plane trees.
  • A mixed audience of residents and holidaymakers — a rare moment of connection between those who live here year-round and those passing through.
  • The sound of cicadas still active at the start of the evening, then the Ardèche stars — among the most visible in France thanks to the region’s very low light pollution.
  • Recent, quality films at very accessible prices.

Bernard’s tip: The Vogüé screening on 21 July is particularly magical — the floodlit Château de Vogüé as a backdrop, the river below, and a film under the stars. Worth planning into your week if you’re staying at the Mas at that point.
