Some events leave a particular mark on the Ardèche summer. The Festival d’Alba-la-Romaine is one of them. Every July, this medieval village of 1,400 inhabitants perched among vineyards and forests transforms into an open-air stage for one of the region’s greatest contemporary circus festivals. In 2026, it’s the 17th edition, running 9 to 14 July — and for guests at Mas Saint Antoine, it’s a must: Alba-la-Romaine is just 15 minutes away.
What is the Festival d’Alba-la-Romaine?
The Festival d’Alba is organised by La Cascade, Pôle National Cirque, based in Bourg-Saint-Andéol — our own town. Since 2009, the festival has brought together around fifteen companies each summer for performances of contemporary circus, street theatre, acrobatics, live music and burlesque shows.
What makes this festival unique is its setting: performances spread across several emblematic spaces in the village, forming a star of open-air stages. The Roman theatre fills with audiences for the major evening shows. The medieval castle overlooks the big top. The Carbunica — a vast outdoor convivial space under the trees — becomes the hub for food, drink and social life between shows. And the hamlet of La Roche hosts its own intimate performances.

Alba-la-Romaine beyond the festival: a village worth discovering
The festival is the perfect opportunity to discover Alba-la-Romaine itself — one of southern Ardèche’s most beautiful villages. The medieval castle in volcanic basalt, the black stone alleyways, the Carbunica archaeological museum tracing 2,000 years of Roman history, the vineyards and the panoramas over the Rhône valley and the Drôme hills opposite: Alba-la-Romaine rewards exploration between shows, on foot and at your own pace.
The festival draws its unique character from this very layering: contemporary circus in a Roman theatre, a big top at the foot of a medieval castle, acrobats in black basalt alleyways. Nowhere else in Ardèche does this dialogue between heritage and live performance feel so powerful.
